Switch it off
One of the biggest ways that you can stop wasting energy is to evaluate how much energy is used in your home. By switching off or turning down appliances you can drastically improve your energy efficiency.
For example, at a random moment in your day go around the house to see how many appliances and things are switched on. Switching off lights in rooms that aren’t being used will help say money and energy. You can then find out how much money you have actually saved with our calculator.
Subtropical heating
One of the cheapest and most efficient ways to save energy is to keep in the heat. Block draughts from windows and doors with draught excluders. Turning down the heating by one degree, could cut your heating bills by up to 10% and typically save around £50 per year.
The standard temperature for rooms is 18 degrees, so stay green and don’t put the heating up in rooms that don’t need it. Close your curtains at dusk to stop heat escaping through the windows.
Energy Saving Light Bulbs
A simple ways to become more energy efficient is to fit energy saving light bulbs in your home. They last up to 10 times longer than ordinary bulbs, this equates to around £45 over the lifetime of the bulb.
